It also contributes a significant figure to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). India has a particularly large agricultural sector. While the sector’s share of GDP has halved in the past 30 years to around 15 per cent, it still employs around half of India’s workforce and accounts for much of the volatility in Indian GDP. India is ranked under the world’s five largest producers of over 80% of agricultural produce items. The country’s food production is far above that of the US, which once supplied food grains to India to tide over our domestic food shortage.

Unknown too many, India’s international trade in agricultural products fetches higher earnings for the country than trade in services or manufacturing. Indian Agri Food has registered impressive growth over last few decades.

The country has witnessed emphatic growth in export of Agri and allied commodities. India is not only self-sufficient to meet the domestic demand for food but is also a net exporter of agricultural products.
